and so the countdown begins.
Progress Update:
All of my Rotary stuff has been a little hectic. For example, my guarantee form said that my final destination was Bangkok, but my Host Rotary wanted me to fly into Ubon Ratchatani, but that was unclear for a while, so I was emailing everyone I could think of to try to solve the solution. Finally, I have my final itinerary. It includes 4 nights and takes 3 days. I still have to work out the scheduling of where I’m staying in Bangkok with my Rotary when I stay there overnight. It’s going to be one crazy trip getting there, but I’m excited. After all, it wouldn’t be a crazy adventure if you couldn’t get a story out of it.
Mueang in Thai means city which is confusing because in the district of Si Sa Ket, there is a city called Mueang and a city called Mueang Si Sa Ket. So there’s Mueang Si Sa Ket, Si Sa Ket, Thailand and Mueang, Si Sa Ket, Thailand. For a while I was very confused as to the correct city in which I was going to live. The problem is they referred to my city as both Mueang and Si Sa Ket, but they did so separately. It was confusing, but I finally think I understand. If not, that’s fine, too. There’s no need to worry or stress as my mother is currently doing because it’s all okay, and everything that needs to get done will get done. In it’s own time, the problems will be resolved. This is a very sabai attitude-as they say in Thailand, and it’s the attitude that Thais have towards most things. It’s a good way to travel: low stress and high excitement. If only this attitude would rub off on my mother, but I guess it’s okay that she freaks out because as she freaks out, I keep it together. I’m a counter balance, so without her to freak out for me, I’d either be bouncing off the walls and drowned in a wave of anxiety.
Until the next freakout,
Sam

Progress Update:
- I went to my first Rotary meeting in the US. It was Sarah’s last meeting. Sarah is an inbound from Germany, and it was very sad to know she’s leaving so soon. The meeting was just a lot of updates and progress report kind of things. Also, the district chair came to talk which was very cool.
- My friend, Jaimeson, and I went to the new Thai restaurant downtown where Teahelahn works. Teahelahn is a rebound from Thailand. We chatted a lot with her during our meal and then hung out with her the rest of the night, all the time being given more advice about Rotary, exchange, and Thailand.
- I’ve started painting scenes in Racine for my host gift.
- I cleaned everything off all of the walls in my room and have cleaned out my entire desk. Slowly but surely, I will remove all evidence of my existence from that room. Well, not really, but close enough.
- I’ve started packing and I bought two new suitcases. Everything that is in a suitcase is not allowed to come out, so although that leaves me only partially packed because I need a lot of the stuff that I’m packing before I leave, at least I’m partially packed.
